Some people know me as Dan Keplinger, others as King Gimp, but to me they both stand for loyalty, honesty, and a fighting spirit. My life was the subject of the 2000 Oscar winning documentary “King Gimp”.  Shortly after the documentary, I was featured in a Cingular commercial during the 2001 Super Bowl.

I was born with Cerebral Palsy on January 19, 1973.  My formal education started when I entered early intervention at 18 months.  I continued in special education until I was mainstreamed at 16 years old.  It was then that I discovered my artistic talent and my life forever changed.  It was through art that I began to rediscover my voice.  It was art that reignited my spirit and it is my art and my passion to use it and my story to help others ignite their own passion and rediscover their own voices.

At the age of 35, I completed my formal education by obtaining my MFA.  Today, I travel nationally and internationally with my wife as an artist and speaker to inspire everyone to find their passion in life.  In 2013, I was invited by ABILITY Magazine to sit on a panel at the United Nations: The Art of Engagement, an entertaining approach to building awareness about PWD. My most recent adventure was being invited to Chengdu, China for an international art show.  I would love the honor to bring my art and message to your community.

As a guest lecturer or speaker, I generally show one of the films about my life, talk about my experiences, and answer questions from the audience. If your schedule would allow it, I could also provide a drawing demonstration of how my artwork is created.

I hope that you will be interested in sharing the rich diversity of my life with your students, staff, and their families. I look forward to hearing from you and the possibility of sharing the extraordinary world of my journey.

Sincerely,
Dan Keplinger, Artist
